A lot of the characters were true to life.I know cause I knew most of em.
Names were transposed. Pats Pardee was pretty much as stated. Nick's back yard was authentic. Picnic table & all.
Nick corrected me once when I said "Concrete". "No ...... That's not concrete, that's g....Ee Gold"
He was right. He also liked 5's & 9's on the crap table.
Pat and his brothers were aces. Stand up guys.
It was nostalgic reading.
Thank you Mario.

Respect the Dead edition by Mario L Mozzillo Karen Christoffersen Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Entertaining; colorful characters; keeps you on the edge until the very last page....Can't wait for the next book.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book!! It is a very fast-paced plot involving a complex web of characters (not too complicated to follow though), all of whom are needed to ensure a full understanding of the storyline. I certainly am looking forward to his next book!! If you like murder mysteries, this one ranks in the higher echelon of whodunits.
Great book! Its one liners kept me chuckling. Written with the feel of film noir, Wreck Ranieri's larger then life personality just seemed to jump right off the page.
I enjoyed Respect The Dead by Mario Mozzillo so much I read it twice - something I rarely do. Like headlights illuminating the path of a roadway, Mr. Mozzillo's writing takes the reader on a brightly lit journey of fast-paced mystery, intrigue and humor, with plenty of unexpected twists and turns along the way! My own love of this story is born out by the book's rave reviews and I was pleased to see Mr. Mozzillo selected as the Mystery Author of the Month for October at Barnes and Noble in Stuart, Florida. I think Respect The Dead has merely given us a taste of Mr. Mozzillo's brilliant writing and I can't wait for the next book to see what his unique crew of characters will get themselves into next!
Mario Mozzillo catches the unmistakeable tone of the hallcyon days of the "boys" who thrived decards ago in several New England cities such as Springfield, Providence, Hartford, and New Haven. With names like Butch, Kid, Yutzi,Beansie,Foxie, Asphalt, and Squirt, the author peppers his story with empathtic characters and yes, some you'd like to stomp on.
Nick "Wreck" Ranieri thinks and slams his way through the intrigues of solving an old murder. I was most ammused by Nick's habit coming up with a notable quotes from literature in the midst of dealing with punks. It was as if he had memorized the entire collection of famous quotes. 250-pound Nick, the good-guy protagonist, is one tough dude...and well-read as well. The blend of the two characteristics is intriguing. Nick runs a succesful Connecticut construction company and immerses himself in the solving of a murder in which he has a personal interest, but which has been apparently covered up. On his quest he tangles with crooked cops, shady poiticians, and unsuspected killers.
Combining bravavo, humor,'blood and guts', surprise, tenderness, and sensitivity, the pages of this this true-to-life first novel are loaded
with memories of a colorful era in the Northeast, gone but obviously not forgotten by the author. A damn good murder mystery.
To say that I enjoyed this book is truly an understatement. To say that I LOVED it would be much more appropriate. From the very beginning to the very end, Mr. Mozzillo had me wondering what would be "diamond in the rough" Wreck Ranieri's next move. How could he possibly solve this case with so many corrupt local officials, politicians and cops. When I wasn't pondering the "who done its", I was laughing out loud at the many one liners that are sprinkled throughout the story. It was a delightful mix of murder, mystery and humor. I can only hope that we won't be kept waiting too long for the next in what is surely destined to become one of the greatest murder mystery series of all time. Thank you Mr. Mozzillo for the great read.
