My Cursed Highlander starts off a little slow, but then it gets better and better and then i am so engrossed in reading i don't want to put this book down. Taveon, The leader of his Clan has gone to find the Amulet that will save the women of his clan. When they become pregnant they are cursed and during child birth they will die. His beloved sister-in-law is to have a child in a very short time and he must find the Amulet to remove this curse or surely she will die. He finds Lady Viviana, who is wearing it! He thinks she is a madam Harlet but she is anything but! He tries to steal the Amulet from her but fails and is forced to marry her by her Guardian. Viviana is blind! But as long as she is wearing the Amulet she can see through the eyes of Taveon if he standing near her. He takes her home with him, the sexual sparks began to fly hot and heavy! Oh those wonderful Higlanders.!! But Viviana must never get with child! However she is believed to be barin. Then the story takes a twist and becomes down right scary! The Evil spirit lives in the body of one of the women!! I actually find myself living in this story! I can not stop reading until i finish this book! I wish that i could go on and on but i must stop so you can read it without me discloseing the ending.It is a very good story in my humble opinion, and so much different than all the Highland Warrior books that i have read! and there have been so many! i will read this book over again in time.I give "My Cursed Highlander" 5 Stars! Killion's books are always a sure bet for me. Great read-- as good as any of hers that I've read !
This story really held my interest. The sex was a bit more explicit than I like. It seemed to belong in the erotica section rather than romance.Other than that I enjoy this authors work and the book was great.
I loved this book and couldn't put it down once I started reading. A unique setting, and fantastical situation - curses, magic, spirits - I thoroughly enjoyed it! The characters and their back stories were well developed. Hot, steamy love scenes, a hero both dashing but one who isn't perfect, and a heroine who knows herself and how to get what she wants, all make for an outstanding story.
A must read by the wonderful Kimberly Killion! Enjoyed another great book that I could not put down and of course my favorite part Highlanders!! This story takes you on a journey with the sexy Highlander laird Taveon Kraig who is searching for the pendent that could save his clan from a curse that was place on them long ago. To brake this curse he must try to convince Viviana Gorini Dè Medici the beautiful art sculptress who just happens to be blind, to come with him. Very exciting story that will leave you on the edge and hungry for more.
This book was a mixed bag for me. It almost seemed like it was two stories put together. The first half started off as romantic tale between Taveon and Viviana and I enjoyed their "courtship" and chemistry develop first in Italy and then as they progressed to Scotland. However, once they got to Scotland, I felt as though things started to fall apart. Toward the end of the story it dissolved into full fledged paranormal mode and I had trouble keeping track of what was happening...between the ghosts, possession, exorcism, etc. it all got very confusing keeping it all straight.
This book is quite different from other highlander romances. The main female character isn't Scottish or English, she's Italian. She's very unlike other female characters from other highland romances as she's blind and needs to depend on others yet she's strong and still opinionated. The reason I really love this book is the little twist of horror that comes from an evil ghost. The male main character is also a bit different from other romances I've read, he's not perfect and there were times i was very angry with him but all the imperfections made him a bit more real and I really fell in love with the both main characters. I read this book in one day, I could not put it down.
Clever plot, well written, but definitely had issues for me. The first part of the book was disappointing, the love scene seemed more like something out of an erotic novel and yet the last part was great.
The story begins in Italy in 1486 as Laird Taveon Kraig is trying to recover a magical amulet to break the curse that has plagued his clan for a hundred years. His search takes him to Florence where he encounters a beautiful Italian woman, Viviana Gorini De Medici, a blind sculptress who can "see" through the eyes of some she touches, including Taveon, when she wears her magical amulet. Having survived two rally bad marriages, Viviana has no desire to take another husband--especially a Scottish laird who only wants her for her amulet.
The dialog is snappy (if not a bit fanciful), and the story moves along at a good pace as they travel from Italy through France and then to Scotland, but I felt whipsawed by Taveon's fluctuating feelings for Viviana first he wants her for his wife though he doesn't even know her; then when she (reasonably) rejects him, he treats her badly, leaving the blind girl at the altar just after they're wed; then almost immediately he decides to become the seducing husband. Our hero seemed a tad bit insincere and his fluctuating feelings not believable. The heroine was constantly bitter and snippy. She kept comparing Taveon to her two former husbands, which frankly, got old. My assumption is the author was trying to create conflict--and she did that--but it was just a bit much for the beginning of the book.
One wants to like the hero and heroine, but a third of the way through, I didn't care about either of them. I preferred Taveon's sidekicks and her dog. And that was another thing. Throughout the book, the dog makes the sound "yap, yap, yap," but he's described as a big dog. Only small terriers make a "yap, yap" sound. Big dogs make deep "woof." Since the dog was a main character, it was distracting.
I didn't much care for the love scenes and that's unusual for me. They seemed more mechanical than emotional and more erotica than regular romance. But some may like them. I know the heat levels of romance have been rising but it's got to fit the characters and the story and for me, these didn't.
Once they got to Scotland, about 2/3rds of the way through the book, the action picked up and the developing story seemed more real though a bit dark at times. I would have given it 4 stars except for the first half of the story.
